How is a scale mounted on a material handler?
A material handler scale is mounted between the boom and the attachment, so every lift passes through the load cell. Intermercato’s MH 15-50 is wireless, extremely low-built and suitable for all machines and grapples. Mount it in front of the quick coupler and the scale stays with the machine – whatever attachment the next job needs.
Change the attachment. Not the weighing system.
Where the scale sits
On a material handler, the scale hangs at the boom tip, above the attachment:
Boom → Intermercato scale → (quick coupler) → grab, spreader or hook
Two things make this work in practice:
- Extremely low-built design. Every centimetre between boom and grab is lifting height you lose. Intermercato’s crane scales are built as low as possible.
- Wireless communication. No extra cables between the scale and the cab. The weight goes straight to the Intermercato Weighing App on a rugged tablet or smartphone.

Mounting in front of the quick coupler: one scale, many tools
At Hafen Wien, changing attachments is part of the job. The challenge was a weighing solution that could stay on the machine and deliver reliable weight data regardless of which attachment was in use. Installing the MH25 in front of the quick coupler solved it:
- The scale stays on the boom when attachments change.
- The operator tares directly from the cab for the new attachment.
- Weighing continues with the next tool – no separate weighing solution per attachment.
That is the Intermercato modular approach: the scale is adapted to the machine type and the material, entirely according to the customer’s requirements.
Built for continuous operation
A scale at the boom tip takes every knock the machine takes. Intermercato builds for that:
- Robust stainless-steel construction – lightweight yet robust, as on the MH25 at Hafen Wien.
- Overload-protected, temperature-compensated load cell.
- Up to 3x rated capacity in overload without losing accuracy.
- No maintenance.
What to prepare before installation
To get the right adapter and measuring range, have this ready when you talk to Intermercato or your dealer:
- Machine make and model – for example Fuchs MHL340 or MHL380F.
- Boom tip and quick coupler – make and model, if you use one.
- Attachments – grabs, hooks, spreaders – and their weights.
- Heaviest lift – to choose the right MH size within 15 000–50 000 kg.
- Hydraulic functions at the attachment – so routing past the scale is planned.
- Trade use – whether the weight will be used for invoicing, so verification is planned in.
Other machines
Intermercato builds crane scales for more than material handlers. The FR 10 suits log loaders and smaller material handlers, the FR 5 timber trucks and forwarders, and the RC 5 and FR Hook truck-mounted cranes and container dischargers. Frequently asked questions
Where is a material handler scale mounted?
Between the boom tip and the attachment. On Intermercato installations the scale hangs above the grab or hook, and at Hafen Wien it is installed in front of the OilQuick OQC70/55 quick coupler so it stays on the machine.
Which material handlers can take an Intermercato scale?
The MH 15-50 is suitable for all machines and grapples, with a measuring range of 15 000–50 000 kg. Published installations include a Fuchs MHL340 at Cronimet Norr in Kalix and a Fuchs MHL380F at Hafen Wien.
Do I need cables from the scale to the cab?
No. Intermercato's crane scales are wireless, so there is no additional cabling between the weighing system and the cab.
Can one scale be used with several attachments?
Yes. Mounted in front of the quick coupler, one Intermercato scale serves all attachments, and the operator tares from the cab when switching – as at Hafen Wien with grabs, a Big Bag spreader and a double load hook.
