Intermercato Intelligent Weighing Systems: the material handler scale explained

Written by Intermercato · Published · 4 min read

Intermercato Intelligent Weighing Systems are wireless crane scales and material handler scales that weigh hanging load while it is in motion – certified and type-approved under MID, and built in Sweden. They sit between the boom and the attachment, weigh every lift, and send the weight to an Android app and on to the cloud.

Superior precision with intelligent weighing technology. That is the promise. Here is what is behind it.

What is a material handler scale?

A material handler scale is a load-weighing system mounted on a material handler – typically between the boom tip and the grab – so that the weight of every lift is captured during normal work. No separate weighing step. No queue at the weighbridge.

Intermercato’s material handler scale is the MH 15-50: a wireless crane scale for optimised loading of scrap, bulk, timber or other materials without any loss of time. It comes in several sizes, with a measuring range of 15 000–50 000 kg, and is used at sorting facilities, wood yards and when loading and unloading ships.

What is intelligent weighing?

Intelligent weighing means that the scale takes over the weighing process as soon as it is activated – automatically or manually. Once the scale has calculated a stable weight, the operator receives a signal to unload. When that is done, the weight is saved automatically in one of the app’s memory banks.

The secret behind Intermercato IWS is a unique, patented algorithm that allows weighing in motion. According to Intermercato, it makes the weighing accuracy independent of driving style and operator. Read the deep dive: How dynamic weighing of hanging load in motion works.

The range at a glance

ModelBuilt forMeasuring range
MH 15-50Material handlers – scrap, bulk, timber, ports15 000–50 000 kg
FR 10Log loaders and smaller material handlersup to 10 000 kg
FR 5Timber trucks and forwarders5 000 kg
RC 5Truck-mounted cranes and container dischargers – wasteup to 5 000 kg
FR HookTruck-mounted cranes – household waste and scrap, Gunnebo hookup to 10 000 kg

All models share the same core: type-approved, manufactured in Sweden, extremely low-built, overload-protected and temperature-compensated load cell, up to 3x rated capacity in overload, no maintenance, patented. Compare them in detail: Which Intermercato crane scale fits your machine?

Intermercato describes its system as the world’s only certified and type-approved scale for hanging load in motion. It is certified and type-approved according to MID and meets Swedac’s requirements. Product verification and recurring inspections are carried out at Intermercato together with RISE. That makes the weights usable for weight-based invoicing and traceability – essential in recycling. Software for Android and Intermercato Cloud

The Intermercato Weighing App is developed by Intermercato’s own programmers. It runs on rugged smartphones and tablets and offers:

  • multiple weighing modes – automatic, semi-automatic and container weighing for gross and net weights
  • a large number of memory banks, named by material, collection point and so on
  • export to CSV and PDF
  • GPS positioning of each weighing
  • a multilingual, intuitive interface and an open architecture

Intermercato Cloud takes the next step: a synchronised register of customers, collection points, vehicles and materials, real-time data and statistics, API integration and cloud backup. Subscriptions are flexible and priced on request. More: Weighing software and Intermercato Cloud.

In-house production – Swedish engineering with global reach

Intermercato has full control over every component in the weighing system. Both hardware and software are developed by Intermercato. That control means product performance can be optimised and changes made quickly based on the customer’s requirements and feedback. Thanks to a smart modular system, the scale can be adapted to the machine type and the material being weighed.

Where Intermercato scales work

  • Recycling – traceability and weight-based invoicing with reliable, real-time weighing.
  • Ports – full control over loading and unloading.
  • Cargo – accurate weighing of general cargo, better control and higher safety.
  • Forestry – maximise payload and avoid overload when loading timber.
