Material handler scales: types, process, lead time and price

Written by Intermercato · Published · 4 min read

Intermercato builds five types of crane scale – with the MH 15-50 as the material handler scale – and quotes each system to your machine. Price and lead time are set by the model and measuring range, the mounting on your machine, the software and whether the scale is used for trade. Here is how the types differ, how the process runs and what moves the price.

Types: right tool for the right task

TypeBuilt forMeasuring rangeTypical material
MH 15-50Material handlers15 000–50 000 kgScrap, bulk, timber, port cargo
FR 10Log loaders and smaller material handlersup to 10 000 kgTimber, lighter material handling
FR 5Timber trucks and forwarders5 000 kgTimber
RC 5Truck-mounted cranes and container dischargersup to 5 000 kgHousehold waste, animal carcasses
FR HookTruck-mounted cranes, Gunnebo hookup to 10 000 kgHousehold waste and scrap

Every type is type-approved, manufactured in Sweden, extremely low-built and maintenance-free, with an overload-protected, temperature-compensated load cell that handles up to 3x rated capacity. Full comparison: Which Intermercato crane scale fits your machine?

Weighing modes

All Intermercato Intelligent Weighing Systems support automatic, semi-automatic and container weighing for gross and net weights, through the Intermercato Weighing App for Android.

Process: from first call to first weighed lift

  1. Tell us about the job. Contact Intermercato sales or your nearest dealer. Have this ready: machine make and model, lifting capacity, attachments (grab, hook, quick coupler), the material you weigh, and whether you invoice on the weight.
  2. Choose model and size. The measuring range is matched to the machine and the heaviest lift. The modular system adapts the scale to the machine type and the material.
  3. Quote. You receive a quote for the scale, mounting parts, devices and software – plus Intermercato Cloud if you want it.
  4. Production. Intermercato develops and builds both hardware and software in-house, so configurations and special solutions are handled in one place.
  5. Verification for trade use. For legal-for-trade weighing, product verification and recurring inspections are carried out at Intermercato together with RISE.
  6. Installation and start-up. The scale is mounted between boom and attachment – at Hafen Wien, in front of the quick coupler – and the app is connected. Weights start flowing into memory banks, CSV/PDF reports and, if chosen, the cloud.
  7. Recurring inspection. A legal-for-trade scale is inspected at intervals to stay approved.

Lead time: what affects it

Intermercato does not publish a standard lead time on its website. What drives it:

  • Model and size – standard sizes versus a less common measuring range.
  • Mounting parts – an adapter for your specific boom, quick coupler or hook.
  • Trade verification – whether the system must be verified before it is used for invoicing.
  • Special solutions – custom adaptations take engineering time.
  • Software set-up – cloud account, register and API integrations.

Ask sales or your dealer for the current lead time for your configuration.

Price: what drives it

Intermercato quotes each weighing system individually. The price is built from:

Price driverWhat it means
Model and measuring rangeMH 15-50 sizes up to 50 tonnes versus FR/RC models
MountingAdapter for your boom, quick coupler or hook
DevicesRugged smartphones or tablets for the cab
Trade useVerification and recurring inspection for legal-for-trade weighing
Intermercato CloudFlexible subscriptions, tailored to your needs – price on request
IntegrationsAPI connection to your ERP or invoicing system

The other side of the ledger matters as much: weighing in motion saves time, avoids overloads and removes trips to the weighbridge. See Does a scrap handler scale pay off?

Frequently asked questions

How much does a material handler scale cost?

Intermercato does not publish list prices. The price of an Intermercato material handler scale depends on the model and measuring range, the mounting parts for your machine, the devices and the software set-up. Intermercato Cloud subscriptions are flexible and priced on request.

What types of Intermercato crane scale are there?

Five: MH 15-50 for material handlers (15 000–50 000 kg), FR 10 for log loaders and smaller material handlers (up to 10 000 kg), FR 5 for timber trucks and forwarders (5 000 kg), RC 5 for truck-mounted cranes and container dischargers (up to 5 000 kg) and FR Hook for truck-mounted cranes in waste and scrap (up to 10 000 kg).

How long does it take to get a material handler scale?

Lead time depends on the model and size, the mounting parts your machine needs and whether the system must be verified for trade use before delivery. Ask Intermercato sales or your dealer for the current lead time for your configuration.

How do I order an Intermercato scale?

Contact Intermercato sales at sales@intermercato.com or +46 414 205 25, or your nearest Intermercato dealer. Tell them your machine, your attachments, the material you weigh and whether you invoice on the weight.

Can Intermercato build a special solution?

Yes. Special solution? No problem. Intermercato develops solutions based on specific requirements and in consultation with the customer, and the modular weighing system can be adapted to the machine type and the material.
